“Melanie is a joy to work with. As a student, Melanie brings an incredible depth of thinking and an insatiable curiosity to her work. In addition to her energy and focus in her acting and voice studies, she brings incredible positivity into the classroom. She is an absolutely outstanding student, artist, and person.”

Hi! I’m Melanie Peterman, and I’m a Dallas-based teacher and theatre artist. In May 2022, I graduated from SMU's Theatre Department with my BFA in Theatre with an Acting Specialization. I'm currently a second-year graduate student in SMU's Simmons School of Education, where I'll be graduating with my Master of Education in May 2024. I'm a recipient of the Charles Butt Scholarship Award for Aspiring Teachers, which includes a commitment to teaching in an economically disadvantaged Texas school. The scholarship program focuses on the importance of equity in our education system, which is something that I am incredibly passionate about.

I love working as an actor and performing in the DFW area. I appreciate the way that theatre and teaching careers lend themselves to each other and possess complementary skillsets. I've loved theatre and teaching for as long as I can remember, and I'm excited to be on the road to fulfilling my dream of combining both fields into a career for myself.

If I manage to find a bit of free time between graduate school classes & theatre rehearsals, I love to unwind by reading, painting, playing ukulele, rewatching Star Wars, and visiting my local cat café. ◡̈
